The 1970 orthophotograph of Asturias has been published

The General Direction of Urban Planning, through the Cartography Service, has published on the SITPA IDEAS platform the complete orthophotography of our Autonomous Community's territory, based on images obtained during the flight conducted between 1968 and 1970, at an altitude of approximately 3,000 meters and a scale of 1:20,000.
This complex project, developed by Cartography Service staff, required the georectification of 2,403 digitized frames, with a resolution of 35cm per pixel. The result is a previously unseen image of Asturias with a digital resolution of 50cm per pixel, illustrative of a time of profound territorial change.
The General Direction of Urban Planning plans to produce the orthophoto corresponding to the remaining available complete flight, the one carried out in 1993. This will provide public authorities, businesses, academia, and the general public with an overview of our territory from 1956 to the present day. 

*POST NOTE: This historical orthophotograph has been generated by orthorectifying the original frames using the current MDT05 of the National Geographic Institute. 

Local adjustments have been made to this model in certain areas in order to improve its adaptation to the existing relief at the time of the original acquisition; however, these modifications do not cover the entire Asturian territory. 

Considering that the Earth's surface may have undergone substantial variations in the intervening period—due to infrastructure works, earth movements, erosive processes, or other anthropogenic or natural causes—the absolute planimetric accuracy of the orthophotography is not guaranteed in areas affected by this type of alteration.

Therefore, it is recommended to use it with caution in applications or analyses that require high positional accuracy.
