NEW Map of Asturias 1:200.000
22/05/2025
The Cartography Service has developed a new map of Asturias at a scale of 1:200.000, which is distributed in GeoPDF, PDF (printable), and ECW formats from SITPA-IDEAS.
The georeferenced information contained in regional maps is essential for regional and local territorial planning and management, for personal mobility, freight transport, and business logistics, as well as for the development of educational resources, tourist guides, and the location of public and private facilities.
The current version is based on a previous map developed in 2009, which was partially updated in 2019. The latest available geographic information technology was used to create the new 1:200.000 map, allowing for its constant improvement and updating. It also represents a qualitative leap in terms of the volume, organization, and representation of the information provided, better adapting to current needs.
Significant new features include:
-
The names of the population entities according to the Geographic Nomenclature of the Official Toponymy of the Principality of Asturias.
-
The urban planning regime, distinguishing between urban or developable land, residential, industrial, commercial or service land, and land classified as rural areas.
-
The vertices of the National Geodetic Network of GNSS Reference Stations (ERGNSS), the Active Geodetic Network of the Principality of Asturias (RGAPA) and the National Geodetic Network by Space Techniques (REGENTE).
-
In addition to the regional and municipal boundaries, the boundary lines of the 857 Asturian parishes, drawn up by SADEI.
Information has also been expanded and updated regarding:
-
Mobility. The road and rail networks, airports and airfields, and lighthouses have been updated to 2025. Furthermore, ports of general interest and fishing, mixed, and nautical-sports ports have been incorporated into the regional network.
-
Culture and tourism. The new 1:200.000 map contains information on visitable archaeological sites, World Heritage sites, Asturian pre-Romanesque art; national inns, ski resorts, campsites, museums and cultural spaces, recreational areas, and the Camino de Santiago trails.
-
Protected natural areas: National Park, natural parks, biosphere reserves, Ramsar wetlands, natural monuments, protected landscapes and nature reserves.
-
Hydrography updated 2025.
-
Unofficial toponymy. Priority has been given to the use of unofficial toponyms that appear in previous editions of Map 200.000.
The map is public access, free of charge, and licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution (CC-BY 4.0) license. It was developed using information generated by the Administration of the Principality of Asturias, the National Geographic Institute, the Central Cartography Registry, and SADEI.
