Iberian Spatial Infrastructure Conference 2024 “The value of geospatial data”
Between November 13 and 15, the Iberian Space Infrastructure Conference was held in Vitoria, an annual event that brings together the geospatial community of Spain and Portugal, and which will celebrate its twentieth edition in 2024. Around 400 professionals from the three levels of public administration (state, regional and local), as well as the private sector, had the opportunity to share experiences and good practices demonstrating the value of geographic data for decision-making and the development of business initiatives in very diverse fields such as agriculture, forestry management, improving environmental quality or protecting ecosystems with artificial intelligence tools, among others.
On this occasion, the Department of Territorial Planning, Urban Planning, Housing and Citizen Rights of the Principality of Asturias presented two of its latest products developed by the Cartography Service:
- The Geographic Gazetteer of the Official Toponymy of Asturias, which locates on the ground around 24,000 official names of as many population entities, and has required exhaustive field work in collaboration with the interested councils, and
- The Defibrillator Map, which includes the location of all automated external defibrillation (AED) equipment installed outside the healthcare environment in the Principality of Asturias. It has been prepared from official data in collaboration with the Health Services and Centers Inspection Service of the General Directorate of Health Planning. This information, accessible through the SITPA IDEAS portal, is very useful for emergency response through 112.
At the closing ceremony it was announced that next year's Conference will be held in November in Asturias, organized jointly by the Department of Territorial Planning, Urban Planning, Housing and Citizen Rights and the Autonomous Body National Center for Geographic Information, dependent on the Geographic Institute National.
